I've never been one to believe in destiny...

...but allow me to share three little factoids about myself that have started to convince me otherwise.

  1. My name, Kaavya (pronounced KAHV-yuh), translates to poem in Sanskrit. Kaavya is also one of the many names of Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of knowledge, education and creativity.

  2. Sometime in the first couple years of my life, my parents brought my astrological birth chart to my great-uncle — a dabbler in Hindu numerology — who informed them that I would: a) love to read, and b) not pursue a career in medicine, much to my parents' devastation.

  3. By third grade, I was spelling words like ophthalmologist and triskaidekaphobia without missing a beat and garnering creative writing accolades from my schoolteachers.

All this to say that if you asked me today to describe my professional identity, I would tell you I am an editor and a writer.

A wordsmith and a storyteller.

I know how to correctly use a semicolon; it’s not my punctuation mark of choice, but sometimes you need to connect two ideas and an em-dash doesn't feel quite right.

And I also know how to wield the written word in a thoughtful, impactful, big-picture way.

From overseeing the editorial process and crafting compelling online content for 35+ unique brands at one of Canada’s top hospitality organizations, to combing through hundreds of original novels for even the most minute grammatical or formatting errors at one of the world’s leading publishers of books for women, I have amassed a breadth of writing and editing experience in my 10+ years as a wrangler of words. I am — and always have been — fiercely devoted to producing authentic, meaningful, letter-perfect content.

More recently, I've discovered a new dimension to my love for language, in the form of UX writing. I specialize in crafting content that not only engages but also guides users seamlessly through their digital journeys. From designing intuitive content for frontline applicationsto ensuring every word enhances user experience and accessibility, I bring a strategic mindset to every project. My experience includes collaborating with cross-functional teams to refine content strategies, conducting user research to align with real-world needs, and applying best practices to create content that is both clear and compelling. In short, I take pride in turning complex information into user-friendly experiences that resonate with audiences and drive results.

My greatest sources of pride and joy, though, are my three babies: two human and one fur. I'm also an avid audiobook listener, with a goal of finishing 60 books by the end of 2024. And I live for bold, punchy flavours, especially if I can whip them up in under an hour!
